Every Minute on the Minute, explained
EMOM means Every Minute on the Minute. At each new window, begin the planned amount of work. If the work is completed before that window ends, the remaining seconds become rest or setup time. The next cue starts a new window regardless of how much time remained in the last one.
This EMOM timer defaults to ten 60-second windows. It also provides 30-second and 90-second options for schedules that use a different boundary. Unlike a work/rest timer, it does not insert a separately configured recovery phase between every window.
Keep every boundary unambiguous
A preparation countdown precedes interval one. After that, the display identifies the current interval, remaining time inside it, total interval count, and the label coming next. A distinct beep marks each boundary, which is useful when the screen is out of your direct line of sight.
Choose the number of rounds by deciding how many fixed windows your planned sequence needs. Ten 60-second rounds last ten minutes, excluding preparation. A 90-second interval repeated eight times lasts twelve minutes. These examples explain timer arithmetic and are not individualized exercise prescriptions.
EMOM compared with HIIT and AMRAP
HIIT usually defines separate active and recovery durations. EMOM assigns one complete window; any unused portion is what remains before the next boundary. AMRAP uses one continuous total countdown and generally leaves round completion to the participant.
If you need one uninterrupted clock with manual round tracking, use the AMRAP timer. If you need explicit work and rest cues, the HIIT timer is a closer match. Choose the interface that reflects how the session is actually organized.
Plan the work outside the timer
An EMOM timer knows the length and number of windows, but it does not know when a movement is finished. The display therefore continues to count down inside the current interval. When your planned work ends, simply wait for the next boundary cue; do not pause the clock unless the entire timed block is meant to stop.
Test the boundary sound before moving the device away, especially when using headphones or Bluetooth speakers that may introduce delay. With sound disabled, keep the interval number and countdown visible. Skipping advances to the next complete window and reset returns to interval one, so the two controls have deliberately different consequences.
